Skills Competition Observations/Duties
Coaches/Supervisor Stations

1.  The skills course may be adequately observed and the competition judged by two adult coaches or volunteers working for the Hockey Skills Challenge.

2.  Coaching Station 1 (CS-1):  The coach is positioned against the boards and standing on the red line.  (Please see Skills Course diagram for location: CS-1)

3.  Coaching Station 2 (CS-2):  The coach is positioned against the boards but just inside the blue line and just past the end of the stick handling portion of the Skills Course (please see Skills Course diagram for location: CS-2)

4.  Coaching Station 1 (CS-1) Duties: 
The duties of this coach are as follows:

  1. Maintain a stopwatch and start the skater on the Skills Course from the starting mark
  2. Observe if the skater loses his or her puck during the stick handling
  3. Observe if the skater misses any cones on the stick handling portion of the Skills Course
  4. Records the skater's finishing time with a stop watch score as he or she crosses the red line, finishing the Skills Course
  5. Records any events on the course requiring any necessary score adjustment to the finishing time score after collaboration with coach at CS-2

5.  Coaching Station 2 (CS-2) Duties:

  1. Take the pass from the skater as he or she exits the stick handling portion of the Skills Course
  2. Make sure a puck is placed just outside the circle loop section of the Skills Course
  3. Note if the skater scores on the goalie
  4. Note if the skater misses any cones on the Skills Course
  5. Note if the skater circles behind the goal net
  6. Record final tally of cones missed, goal scored by the skater and goals allowed by each goalie.
6.  Coaching Station 1 and 2 Collaboration:
  1. Both coaches shall confer following completion of the Skills Course by the participants skaters to accurately note any adjustments to final time scores for skaters and the number of goals allowed by each goalie.
Please note that in the event a "Dual Skills Course" is utilized (please see Skills Course diagram II for layout and spacing) then a total of four coaching stations shall be utilized... two for each course. All duties and locations shall remain the same as they are for a single all as set forth above.
