Competition Rules:

1. Participants may register and compete only once at each qualifying site. However, skaters can register again for a later qualifier if they do not win their initial qualifier.
2. Participants will be boys and girls who fall into one of four age groups as determined by age classifications set forth by USA Hockey. The Competition Age Groups for the Boys: Mites year of birth 2001 and after; Squirts- year of birth 2000 and 1999; Pee Wees- year of birth 1998 and 1997; and Bantam- year of birth 1996 and 1995. Competition Age Groups for the Girls are: Under 8- year of birth 2001 and 2002; Under 10- year of birth 2000 and 1999; Under 12- birth year 1998 and 1997 and Under 14- birth year 1996 and 1995.
3. USA Hockey Age Classifications shall be strictly followed and all Participants, parents or adult legal guardians shall certify that the Participant's age is accurate and truthful on the Entry Form. At the option of the Hockey Skills Challenge staff, parents or legal guardians may be required to provide proof of age upon arrival at any competition site or following the completion of the competition at any completion site. A valid birth certificate shall be deemed acceptable documentation as to age.
4. All Participants must submit a completed and signed Entry and Release of Liability Form found when registering for the Hockey Skills Challenge website prior to the stated registration deadline.
5. Prior to the start of the competition, the parent or legal guardian of each Participant shall pay the entry fee in full and in accordance with payment instructions on the Hockey Skills Challenge website.
6. After receipt of the Entry and Release of Liability Form together with full payment, the Hockey Skills Challenge staff shall notify each Participant via email of the designated place and time of the qualifying competition. A Participant must be present at the designated location and at the scheduled starting time for the competition. Failure to appear at the proper location and on time will result in disqualification from the competition.
7. All Participants must be fully equipped using their own USA Hockey approved equipment during the competition. Mouth guards must be used. No equipment will be provided to Participants.
8. Prior to each competition, Participants will have the opportunity to view and familiarize themselves with the competition Skills Course setup at each rink. Each Participant can go to the Hockey Skills Challenge Website and watch a demonstration video about the Skills Course prior to the commencement of the competition.
9. Scores will be based on the time it takes a Skater to complete the Skills Course. Time will be kept by a Coach present at the competition site. Time will begin at the starting point and conclude as the Skater crosses the finishing point of the Skills Course. Times will be recorded to the tenth of a second with a stop watch used by a Coach present.
10. A skater's time score will be adjusted up or down based upon the following:
- Skater loses puck during stick handling skills: + 1 second
- Skater misses a cone on the Skills Course, up to a toal of two cones missed: + 1 second per cone
- Skater scores on the goalie on the Skills Course: - 2 seconds
The Skater's finishing time plus or minus any time adjustments above, shall yield the final score.
11. A Skater who misses more than two cones on the Skills Course shall be disqualified from the competition.
12. The Skater with the lowest adjusted final time score will advance from the Qualifying site to the Semi-Finals of the competition.
13. A Goalie's score shall be based on a tally of the number of goals allowed. The Goalie from each age classification that surrenders the fewest number of goals will advance from the Qualifying site to the Semi-Finals of the competition.
14. Goalies shall face the same number of Skaters from their respective age classification.
15. Any Skater or Goalie interfering in any way with any other skater or Goalie competing on the Skills Course, or failing to compete on the Skills Course properly, as determined by the Coaches present, at the competition, shall be immediately disqualified.
16. Winners from the Semi-Finals competition will advance to the Finals.
